All Risks
-
This section is designed to cover accidental loss of or damage to personal belongings whilst away from your home. All risks are split between unspecified and specified items as follows:
“Unspecified” All Risks
-
This is in respect of items that you wear or personal effects that are either worn or carried with you, on a day to day basis. These tend to be everyday items such as clothing, handbags, glasses/sunglasses and may also include sports equipment being used by persons participating in sports or hobbies. A globular sum insured is selected to cover these goods. The maximum limit per item is 20% of the globular sum insured selected. Certain items like laptops, cell phones etc. are not covered under this section and must be specified in order to be covered.
“Specified” All Risks
-
These are usually items of higher value and typically includes jewelry (especially exceeding R 5 000 in value), watches, laptops, cell phones, firearms and pedal cycles. These items will be listed along with a replacement value.
-
Jewelry items must be valued at least every 5 years whether specified on the policy or not.
-
If you claim for loss or damage to any watch or article of jewelry, insurers will pay you out no more than R5 000 (five thousand) for each item / pair, unless you provide a professional valuation for the item or pair by an independent jeweler that is dated less than 5 (five) years before the loss or damage occurred.
-
Jewelry items that are worth more than R7 500 each must be kept in a locked safe that is fixed to the building when unoccupied or not actually being worn. If items of this nature are lost or stolen when not in a locked safe, insurers will not meet any claim made for the loss or damage.
