Goods In Transit
-
Any business transporting its own equipment or stock or customers goods that they have accepted responsibility for, will need Goods in Transit insurance. It is similar to Business All Risks, but applies to machinery and stock in trade.
-
The section covers loss or damage to goods whilst loading and unloading, or caused by fire, accidents, overturning of the vehicle they are being carried in and theft of goods from the vehicle or hijack of the whole vehicle carrying the goods. Theft from an unattended vehicle will be covered provided the vehicle is fully enclosed and locked.
-
The cover is in force as soon as the goods are lifted to be loaded so an item that is dropped and damaged even before it was loaded onto a vehicle will be covered in terms of this policy.
-
A standard Goods in Transit policy does not cover goods being imported or exported. These types of transits will require Marine Transit Insurance.
